The poem superhero was a created after a moment in time when my child showed me the clarity of his despair of not knowing what to do or how to act. It’s amazing how such an event can impact you when you don’t even see it coming. To the parent or guardian who feels hopeless at times, may you be knighted with power after reading this declaration.
SUPERHERO
By Scott Chapman 10/01/2003
What happened to yesterday?
What’s up with today?
Talk about changes
In every conceivable way.
Children’s woes were easier
When we were them
There were no new labels
Just coughs and colds (ahem).
How things have changed
And not for the better
For every sentence, phrase,
Word, or letter
From our doctors
Pains us so
We study and search
And still don’t know
What bet did we lose?
What crime did we make?
What did we steal, embezzle,
Covet, or forsake?
Our children are terrified
Glad or angry with rages
Their actions and feelings
Make us feel like rats in cages
But there is a glimmer
Of hope I see
It’s my child’s eyes
Looking back at me
They reflect what their
Souls and feelings share
Our worries, concerns,
Hopes and care
They look up to us
Even though they don’t show it
They want our direction
Even though they don’t know it
To them we are greater
Than the sum of our faults
We’re Heroes In Training
That’s money in our vaults
Their eyes will shine
Like stars up above
If we keep on pressing
Our care and our love
So don’t lose your focus
Keep your eyes on the prize
We’re all Superheroes
In our children’s eyes
The world has been rid of kryptonite, go out and save it!!!!!
