If any of you have ever felt like you are ready to pull your hair out because of your kids, there's probably a reason for that. As dads these days we deal with much, much more that our fathers probably did. But, if you're a father or a grandfather you will likely enjoy this poem about being a dad in todays world. Enjoy.
To those who think we're crazy,
And to those who think we're nuts.
Our way of life is different,
Than bumps and breaks and cuts.
Some think we have it easy,
A dad's a piece of cake.
His job is oh so cushy,
A vacation for heavens sake.
A challenge that I will accept,
A journey the way through,
The pasture we all navigate,
While watching for the poo.
So here we go and hold on tight,
Sit down and enjoy the ride.
A look into the day as dad,
Will unhinge the sane inside.
Pick up your clothes, wash your hands,
And don't fight with your brother.
Use your head, that's what I said,
And always be kind to your mother.
Turn the T.V. off, and brush your teeth,
And don't forget this and that.
Change the litter of your rabbit,
Change the litter of your cat.
"I emptied all my pockets",
Came the shout of our little liar.
So why did I find a game, a dime,
And an eraser in the dryer.
Don't slouch, don't slurp, sit up straight,
We remind him every night.
Don't burp, don't fart, now pass the salt,
You do speak English, right.
Don't laugh with your mouth full,
Sit down you bother me.
Your in my way, be quiet now,
Clear the mess on the counter you see.
Help with the recycling,
Take out all the trash.
Be quick about doing all your chores,
And you'll earn extra cash.
Don't whine, don't mope, and don't give me lip,
These things I don't want to hear,
Slamming doors and yelling noises,
Are the worst things that I fear.
The moral of this story is,
Easy a dad is not.
To be one in this day and age,
Requires more of what you got.
So next time someone says to you,
As dad you got it made.
Sit them down and ask them there,
I suppose you want to trade?
Next time you round up the critters,
And crack your whip to keep them in line,
Rest well in knowing that all your deeds,
Make you more of a dad that's fine.
